How To Repair Damaged Wood Furniture

Wood is a beautiful material that can make all the difference to the design of your interiors, however, it does take quite a lot of TLC to keep it looking its best.

If you have some wood furniture that has lost its sparkle, never fear, all it takes is a little elbow grease to transform it back to its former glory.

Myhome Cleaning loves to do the housework you hate. Our staff is dedicated to providing you with a premium residential cleaning service package.

Restore Wood Naturally

Not only great for restoring dry skin, but coconut oil can also work wonders on old wood. Grab your jar from the kitchen and try working it onto your weathered pieces to restore your wood’s natural colour. You might notice that your wood gets darker, never fear, you’re not straining your furniture! Coconut oil just restores the healthier and natural colour of your piece.

To make the most of this natural ingredient sand your furniture, wash it with soapy water, then rub on coconut oil with a clean cloth. Let it soak in for 15 minutes, then simply buff it out with another dry cloth. Just like moisturising your skin, your furniture will look healthy and restored.

Find The Underlying Beauty

Want to recover the natural beauty underneath the wear and tear of your furniture piece? Stripping down past the paint and damage can reveal a beautiful natural colouring that’s been in hiding all this time.

Use a small amount of liquid stripper to help you transform tired and old wood into a new stunning piece. Apply a thick layer of the liquid stripper on the wood, then leave to rest for 30 minutes. When time is up, scrape away the stripper following the wood grain to avoid any damages.

You should be left with a natural finish that looks as good as new.

Spot Check

If you only need to touch up a couple of spots opposed to the entire piece, use sandpaper to fix up the problem areas. Use fine-grit sandpaper and make sure that you don’t put too much pressure on the wood while you scrub! If your piece is stained, you’ll need to restrain the areas yourself once you’ve fixed the problem areas. Try using an oil-based stain that matches the one already on your furniture, mixing and matching different stains might be needed to find an exact match. Finish the process off with a quality wax, and voila! Good as new.

Fix White Rings

Do you have white rings staining your wooden table? We have a quick way to fix it.

Petroleum jelly!

Slather the ring with your petroleum jelly and let it soak overnight. The oil from the jelly should penetrate the wood and make the ring far less visible. Just don’t forget to utilise coasters next time you have friends over for a drink!
